Artist's Statement
My work is an expression of the raw, elemental energy of the coastline. Inspired by the North Devon Southwest Coast Path, I seek to capture the ever-changing light, the movement of the sea, and the untamed beauty of the landscape. Through expressive mark-making, fluid watercolour and mixed media techniques, I translate the rhythms of nature into dynamic compositions that evoke both the power and fragility of the natural world.
Painting is more than a visual practice for me—it is a way to connect with something deeper, to step beyond observation and into feeling. I channel the energy of the wind, waves, and earth, allowing them to guide my creative process. Each piece is a response to the landscape, an intuitive dialogue between place and painter, where emotion and experience become as integral as pigment and brushstroke.
My workshops and sketch-walks in mark-making and watercolour provide a space for others to explore this connection—to slow down, be present, and engage with nature in a mindful, expressive way. By encouraging a deeper awareness of our surroundings, I hope to foster both creativity and a renewed sense of responsibility toward the environment.
At the heart of my practice is a reverence for the natural world. The coastline is not just a subject; it is a reminder of our place within a greater whole. In a time of ecological uncertainty, I aim to inspire others to tread gently, to appreciate the land and sea, and to recognise that we all have a role in protecting the beauty that sustains us.
